Multiple Routes on Detour for LA Marathon 3/16

Which routes will be in service? 

The 2025 LA Marathon will be held on Sunday, March 16. All Big Blue Bus routes that regularly operate on Sundays will be in service. 

The following routes operate on weekdays only and will not be in service on race day:

  • Rapid 3
  • Route 5
  • Rapid 7
  • Rapid 10
  • Route 15
  • Route 16
  • Route 43

Which routes will be detoured?

The following routes will be on detour:

  • Route 1
  • Route 2
  • Route 8
  • Rapid 12
  • Route 14
  • Route 17
  • Route 18

How long will detours last?

Detours will begin with the first trip of the day, and last until traffic services officers allow buses to resume regular service. 

UCLA Shuttle Bus

On race day, Big Blue Bus will run a complimentary shuttle bus to and from UCLA. The shuttle bus will run between Gateway Plaza (NB Westwood Plaza at Strathmore Ave.) and Westwood Blvd. and Massachusetts Ave.; buses will not serve Hilgard Terminal or Charles E. Young/P2 Hub. 

Getting to/from UCLA

From UCLA to Westwood Blvd. & Massachusetts Ave.

Complimentary shuttle buses will depart from Gateway Plaza (NB Westwood Plaza at Strathmore Ave.), then travel south on Westwood Blvd., turn right on Lindbrook Dr., left on Gayley Ave., left on Ashton Ave., right on Westwood Blvd., right on Rochester Ave., left on Midvale Ave., left on Massachusetts Ave., and left on Westwood Blvd.  Customers should then disembark at the temporary stop on NB Westwood Blvd. at Massachusetts Ave. (after the intersection).

Note: Customers who need to connect to transit service south of Santa Monica Blvd. will need to walk through the Marathon course at Westwood Blvd. and Santa Monica Blvd. Please wait for direction from Marathon officials before crossing Santa Monica Blvd.

Route Detours

Route 1

To UCLA/Westwood (eastbound): 

  • Trips start at regular stop on NB Main St. at Market St.
  • Trips end at temporary stop on NB Sawtelle Blvd. at Olympic Blvd. (after the intersection)
  • No service to UCLA east of Sawtelle Blvd. Board complimentary shuttle on NB Westwood Blvd. at Massachusetts Ave. for service to Gateway Plaza at UCLA.

To Venice (westbound): 

  • Trips start at temporary stop on NB Sawtelle Blvd. at Olympic Blvd. (after the intersection)
  • Trips end at regular stop on WB Grand Blvd. at Riviera Ave.

Route 2

To UCLA/Brentwood (eastbound): 

  • Trips start at regular stop on NB Main St. at Civic Auditorium
  • Trips end at temporary stop on WB Wilshire Blvd. at Barrington Ave. (after the intersection)
  • No service to UCLA east of Barrington Ave.

To Santa Monica (westbound): 

  • Trips start at temporary stop on WB Wilshire Blvd. at Barrington Ave. (after the intersection)
  • Trips end at regular stop on NB Main St. at Civic Auditorium

Route 8

To UCLA/Westwood (eastbound):

  • Trips start at regular stop on SB 7th St. at Olympic Blvd.
  • Trips end at temporary stop on SB Westwood Blvd. at Olympic Blvd. (after the intersection).
  • No service to UCLA north of Westwood Blvd. Board complimentary shuttle on NB Westwood Blvd. at Massachusetts Ave. for service to Gateway Plaza at UCLA.

To Downtown Santa Monica (westbound):

  • Trips start at temporary stop on SB Westwood Blvd. at Olympic Blvd. (after the intersection)
  • Trips end at regular stop on SB 7th St. at Olympic Blvd.

Rapid 12

To UCLA/Westwood (northbound):

  • Trips start at regular stop on NB Overland Ave. at Venice Blvd.
  • Trips end at temporary stop on SB Westwood Blvd. at Pico Blvd. (after the intersection)
  • No service to UCLA north of Westwood Blvd. Board complimentary shuttle on NB Westwood Blvd. at Massachusetts Ave. for service to Gateway Plaza at UCLA.

To Palms (southbound):

  • Trips start at temporary stop on SB Westwood Blvd. at Pico Blvd. (after the intersection)
  • Trips end at regular stop on NB Overland Ave. at Venice Blvd.

Route 14

To Brentwood (northbound):

  • Trips start at regular stop on NB Artisans Way at Centinela Ave.
  • Trips end at temporary stop on SB Bundy Dr. at Montana Ave. (after the intersection)

To Playa Vista (southbound):

  • Trips start at temporary stop on SB Bundy Dr. at Montana Ave. (after the intersection)
  • Trips end at regular stop on NB Artisans Way at Centinela Ave.

Route 17

To UCLA/Sepulveda Station E Line (northbound):

  • Trips start at regular stop on NB Robertson Blvd. at Venice Blvd.
  • Trips end at temporary stop on WB Dowlen Dr. at Bonsall Ave. (VA Hospital) (before the intersection)
  • No service to UCLA east of Bonsall Ave.
  • To Culver City Station E Line (southbound):
  • Trips start at temporary stop on WB Dowlen Dr. at Bonsall Ave. (VA Hospital) (before the intersection)
  • Trips end at regular stop on NB Robertson Blvd. at Venice Blvd.

Route 18

To UCLA/Brentwood (eastbound):

  • Trips start at regular stop on Via Marina at Admiralty Way.
  • Trips end at regular stop on WB Montana Ave. at Amherst Ave.
  • No service to UCLA east of Amherst Ave.

To Marina del Rey (westbound):

  • Trips start at regular stop on WB Montana Ave. at Amherst Ave.
  • Trips end at regular stop on Via Marina at Admiralty Way.
